Meeker Elementary Destination ImagiNation Team Wins State Competition -- Headed to Global Competition

The Meeker Elementary Destination Imagination Team won the state competition for the challenge "Operation Cooperation". "I was very proud of how well the team worked together to solve their challenge" said team manager Jim Popken. The first place finish enables the Meeker Golden Dragons to continue on to the global competition May 20th in Knoxville Tennessee. The Meeker Golden Dragons are expected to compete against over 50 teams from the US and the world (Brazil, China, Mexico, etc). Last year the Meeker Elementary Team placed 3rd out of over 70 teams at the global competition. The Meeker team took first place in the "instant challenge" category at the 2008 global competition.

The Meeker Golden Dragons will be fund raising for the competition. The Meeker PTO has contributed $500 toward the competition trip. Additional contributions in check form should be made out to the Meeker PTO and sent to "Meeker DI -- Meeker Elementary,300 20th St, Ames, IA 50010." The team will also be selling spring bedding plants from Holub Garden Greenhouses as a fund raising project. Order forms are available at http://meekerdi.com.
